Antique 19th Century Italian Tree of Life Vase 31cm Tall
19th Century Italian tree of life-preserving pot. The abstract tree of life decoration signifies good fortune and longevity to the largely rural folk of that time with hopes of a bountiful harvest. They were originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs, or olives. These pots were often topped with linen cloth tied with rope around the indents, to keep insects out.
