19th Century Irish Vernacular Rope and Wood Sugan Chair
Early 19th Century Irish vernacular Sugan chair from the west coast. The chair has beautiful dry bleached mixed timbers with original ropework in clean condition, aged patina with some wear. Sugán means straw rope which, on these chairs is woven to create the seat.
The rope was made by two people twisting hay or straw into a length using a twister. Circa 1820. Seat Height: 35cm Minimum Internal Seat Width: 31cm
