Antique Anchovy Pot (confit) from Puglia, Southern Italy. It represents the finest and most expensive kind of this domestic, ‘ceramica rustica’ with its ivory-coloured glaze known as ‘robba bianca’ and distinctive handles or ‘ears’.
 
Originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines or olives in olive oil and likely dating back to the late 1800s.
 
They now would be ideal for plants, kitchen utensils, wine cooler or as a decorative display piece.

These are antique ceramics handcrafted in the local village pottery and used for generations. They were never 100% perfect so please expect worn and used condition from an item of its age with small cracks and chips which gives them their own charm and character.
